Leroy Bernskoetter

Biography

My name is Leroy Bernskoetter, and I am a Social Studies and Middle School Physical Education instructor at Blair Oaks High School. I also coach the Boys’ and Girls’ Golf teams. This is my 15th year teaching at Blair Oaks and my 25th year in education.

I grew up in Wardsville and graduated from Blair Oaks a long time ago. I love playing sports and was influenced by my high school coach and went into education and coaching. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education degree from University of Central Missouri. Later, I received my Master of Education in Administration from William Woods.

I have been married to my wife Dana for 41 years and she graduated from Blair Oaks as well. We have two great children, a son - Tom and a daughter - Jackie. Tom is still single, and Jackie is married and has two boys. Their names are Tyler and Alex. Those two grandsons are the joy of my life.  My wife and I are big dog lovers, we are especially fond of Golden Retrievers. We love spoiling our golden named Isabell.

My first year out of college I taught at New Franklin and the following eight years I taught and coached at Russellville. I then got out of education and worked in the private sector for several years. When my children were out of school, I decided to get back into education. My first year back in education, I taught and coached at Chamois for a year. The following year I started at Blair Oaks where I still currently teach American History and really enjoy teaching our youth about our past. A lot of that history I have witnessed, and its fun to pass that onto them. I also teach two hours of middle school physical education which is definitely a change of pace from the classroom.  I previously taught Driver’s Education for over 23 years. Now that class kept me on my toes or “brakes” sometimes.

In my career as a coach, I have coached cross-country, track, softball, baseball, basketball, and golf. I love seeing a student or an athlete succeed in whatever they are doing. A couple highlights from my career as a coach was winning two state titles in boys’ track and a state title in boys’ cross-country and  winning a second and a third place in state in girls’ basketball, and a second and fourth place in state in boys’ golf.

I have truly been blessed to have been around a lot of outstanding students and athletes. We live in a great community and have a great school with outstanding leaders and staff.  “We Are Blair Oaks!”
