Michelle Holtmeyer

Biography

My name is Michelle Holtmeyer. I have been a teacher at Blair Oaks for 16 years; before that, I spent 9 years teaching at Fulton High school. I am a native of Springfield, Missouri and traveled this way to go to college at MU. I graduated from MU with a degree in Biology and Chemistry Education. Along the way, I have taught most of the sciences in grades 7 through 12, but for the last several years, I have taught Chemistry, CP Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Physical Science.

I love my job, the students, the variety, and the fun of doing something different, hearing something different, and learning something from my student and my coworkers. I love the absoluteness of what I teach, the fact that there is an answer, and that it is a puzzle you have to solve to find that answer. I didn't start off loving chemistry; my students have all heard me say how much I didn't used to like it, but over the years, it has become my favorite science.

In my spare time, I read, sew, and garden some. I am in charge of the dance team at Blair Oaks so I also spend a fair amount of time listening to music and watching/thinking about dance things. I have 2 children who I love spending time with; my son is serving in the military, and my daughter is a student at Blair Oaks. I also enjoy traveling!
